Ralphs Pass Sing

January 08, 2010

Visiting mmy old home town, New York City for a short time a few years ago; I had timed a four hour in between and before a meeting with an even longer ago mmusic acquaintance. The trip to the upper forties on the west side took long enough from the hotel but the excursion was a pleasant one.

A few familiar landmarks were on the itinerary to revisit as well as the always being open and ready to find a discovery or three of maybe those that weren’t. In most big cities or even the smallest towns or villages for that matter, I’ve been lucky to find more than the normal share of most living individuals, the greatest adventures no matter the original purpose for being there in the first place; usually one having nothing at all to do with the other while often just on the way to…

This particular instance was such an occurrence. After walking most of the time in and around Penn Central Station where first arriving, I began venturing out to join the noonday hordes to be swept up in their midst wild pass sing bye the ever changing streetscape. Extending one foot in front of the other I stepped.

Needless to say, NYC is a 24 our town and one to get lost in no matter where, when, how, or why. Although without too much trouble, you can be sure to find who if in fact you need to know or want to be informed of directions to anywhere; including the smallest town in another country you’ve never even heard existed.

I wasn’t lost so continued on the mmerry way for countless blocks; sum as long as most race tracks. I looked left and rite wild crossing any thoroughfare just in case eye kneaded to save the self from a stampede of loose elephants. Don’t laugh, that has happened in this town although closer to Madison Square Garden where most of that activity takes place.

The Square was close to where I was actually headed but wasn’t sure how far the herd if there were one, would finally fancy a cool drink, scratch a hydrant or even take a gander anywhere they felt like it while trying to hide themselves or escape undetected in the crowds.

No matter what, always check the four directions before stepping off in any direction you may find yourself in NYC - or anywhere for that matter; city, town, village, unincorporated areas, mountains, hills, meadows, oceans, lakes, rivers, streams, brooks or the puddle in front of you which may be hiding a flooded manhole cover… ya never no. This is a clue to stay alive that your parents alsom from NYC may have bestowed upon you depending of course on how many birthdays they cared to attend in your honour in future.

At this point I had walked off the required amount of calories I wanted to put back in or on, along with a decent supply of a good wine; before, during and after. Taking and almost enjoying a few subway rides then finding mmyself walking up the stairs from the screeching environs, the eyes were fixed on the next part of this trek.

This next part is what i considered to be the main element of the journey. It was a shorter one to the following stop because ‘hungrier’ to find a place to sit and enjoy a meal in a place I’ve probably never been before took control of everything else in the head and of course the stomach area. I trudged on but at a much faster pace.

An easy fix for sure in this town of international foods. I then headed onward with a few moored hours to spend. I decided to walk towards the aforementioned meeting place thinking that perhaps there are great possibilities of finding a good out of the weigh restaurant to wile the time before the meeting would transpire.

There were, was and I did follow the wonderful in stinks to satiate the pains of wont as just a few more steps closer was the before, during and after that of:
